Hollister High School students who are interested in joining the HHS Cheer Team will attend a 2-3 day tryout clinic where they will learn a chant and a short dance routine. Athletes will tryout in groups of 4 and will also show their toe touch and tumbling skills. Athletes should have a background in cheer and dance skills and must complete teacher evaluations.
Cheer athletes will need to attend 2-3 morning practices per week in the summer and 1-2 morning practices per week during the school year. HHS Cheer is a year-round sport with performances at every home and away varsity football game, and every girls and boys varsity basketball game. The cheer team also attends a 3-4 day UCA camp each summer and various competitions throughout the fall and winter.
The 2019-2020 squad received the UCA Championship 1st place award for their division at UCA Camp.
Hollister Middle School students in grades 7th and 8th may participate in cheer. Cheer athletes should attend most practices, providing notification if they are not able to be present. Athletes are expected to carry themselves with respect and integrity both in and out of the sports environment and be willing to do what is asked of them. HMS Cheerleaders will cheer at HMS home football and basketball games.
