Academics

Our instructional programs center on the PLC (Professional Learning Communities) philosophy:

  •   What do we expect students to learn?
  •   How will we know when they've learned it?
  •   How will we respond when they don't learn it?
  •   How will we respond if they already know it?

Foundation:
The core subjects: reading/writing, mathematic, science, and social studies provide the foundation for our academic program. Classroom and special teachers excel at preparing lessons and activities to make learning meaningful and exciting for the students. Our curriculum is based on the Missouri Grade Level Expectations, and student-friendly learning targets are posted in every room. Lessons are presented through a variety of instructional strategies, addressing the different learning styles of our students. Students also particpate weekly in art, music, PE, technology, and library. Sixth graders are eligible to particpate in band.

Technology:
Technology plays an integral part of instruction and learning. There are many kinds of technology available for both teachers and students. Every classroom has a SMARTBoard, document camera, and 2-3 computers. There is also a computer lab for use by whole classes. Teachers incorporate technology into instruction as often as appropriate.

Staff Development:
Teachers receive staff development during our Early Release Program every Friday afternoon.  They also participate in off-site professional development activities.  Topics during recent staff development include:  Missouri Reading Initiative, Assessment for Learning, and Professional Learning Communities.
